Kirito has awoken in a mysterious yet somehow familiar virtual world where AIs behave like humans. In this world, Kirito meets a young man named Eugeo. They make a promise where their destinies will soon become entwined. To keep that promise and stay together, they must venture onwards.
@tobibra Are you talking about like spa scenes where it covers full nudity? Full nudity (showing nipples, genitalia, bare ass, exc) automatically makes it an AO, Adults Only, rating---basically, a sex game. That stuff will always be censored on consoles, because sex games aren't allowed on console platforms. The annoying thing is, this AO rule only applies to Japanese games apparently, because stuff like The Witcher 3 isn't censored at all.
Kirito and Asuna ventured to Algade to ask Agil about the weapon found at the crime scene where it had supposedly killed Caynz. As they arrived, Agil sent all of the current customers out and closed shop before addressing Kirito and Asuna. Kirito presented the merchant the rope at the murder scene, which turned out to be a normal item that could be bought at various NPC stores.
But, Asuna grabbed Kirito's collar and demanded half of it. Kirito hastily agreed out of shock. Agil then requested a taste of the S-rank meat, but Kirito replied that he would instead write an 800-word essay on its taste, to Agil's dismay. Kirito and Asuna then left for Selmburg, where Asuna's house was located, to cook it.
The aforementioned hub town is also where you'll be buying new equipment and building relationships with your party members. You can invite any of your allies to take a walk with you, and from there, you can buy them food, gift them items, or stop by a local landmark and flirt like crazy. There's a definite dating sim aspect to how it all works, and although it can seem a tad creepy at times, it's nice that you can get to know other characters at your own pace. What's more, it's just the sort of relaxing downtime that you might crave after hours of slaughtering monsters.
Speaking of which, there are a lot of monsters to slaughter. Every environment, big or small, is always teeming with creatures to put down, meaning that combat is a huge part of the release. Fast and quite satisfying, the battle system is a step up from previous titles. It's got simiar RPG elements to the ones found in Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment, but it's also primarily action-based, like the combat in Sword Art Online: Lost Song. You'll be pulling off combos, dodging attacks, and hammering your opponents with sword skills.
Playing as Kirito, you can have up to three other characters accompany you at any one time, and you can shout commands in the heat of the moment to give your team an advantage. If an enemy's stunned after your most recent barrage, for example, you can tell your party to link attacks together, creating devastating combo chains that are perfect for destroying tougher foes. At its most basic, Hollow Realization is something of a hack and slasher, but add in a large amount of sword techniques, fighting styles, and battle skills to master, each with their own properties, alongside a bunch of tactical options, and there's a wealth of strategic gameplay to unearth.
As for combat variety, there are... I think there are 8 weapon types. One handed swords, scimitars, daggers, two handed swords, two handed axes, maces, two handed katanas, and spears. While they all follow the same control scheme, they all have different combo timings and their own set of special attacks.
Special attacks are your sword skills, and they each have their own property. So one sword skill might decrease your enemy's defence, for example, and another might make them take bleeding damage over time.
All of this stuff combined means that there's a lot of room for experimentation and customisation. You can spend ages putting together your favourite sword and battle skills to create your own playstyle. You could be a katana wielding tank, for example, or you could be a super quick dagger user who buffs the rest of the party. The cool thing is you can switch any time that you like as well, and start levelling up your proficiency with a different weapon.
This is another one of those situations where I'm kinda interested in a game because I just love me a JRPG, but then I read the review and it just ticks so many of my turn-off boxes that I have to give it a miss.
